Communications Team

This is not a typical volunteer opportunity.

We are building a small, collaborative team to support foundational marketing and communications work at the Investigative Genetic Genealogy Association (IGGA).

This work will help define how a professional community communicates, engages, and grows.

IGGA exists to support a rapidly evolving field through education, collaboration, and professional development.

How it communicates will shape how it is understood and how the community engages with it.

Role Distinction

Messaging & Positioning defines how IGGA communicates; Content Development brings that communication to life.

Roles

Messaging & Positioning (Voice and Strategy)

Guides IGGA’s voice, messaging, and consistency across all communications.

  • Shape core messaging and tone
  • Ensure consistency across platforms
  • Support strategic positioning

Content Development (Writing and Editing)

Develops IGGA’s written communications in alignment with its voice and messaging.

  • Draft social media posts, announcements, and email communications
  • Edit and refine content for clarity, tone, and consistency
  • Contribute to the development of content series and key messaging

Who This is Well Suited For

This opportunity is best suited for individuals who:

  • Write with clarity and precision
  • Think carefully about tone and messaging
  • Value thoughtful communication over high volume
  • Are comfortable working in an evolving, early-stage environment
  • Are collaborative and open to feedback

Experience in investigative genetic genealogy or a related field is welcome, but not required.

Alignment with IGGA’s purpose and approach to professional community is essential.

Time Commitment

Approximately 5-10 hours per week, with flexibility based on role and availability.

We recognize this is volunteer work and aim to use time thoughtfully and effectively.

Express Interest

This is foundational work that will shape what comes next.

If this aligns with your experience and how you like to work, we would welcome a conversation.

To express interest, please share:
  • A brief background
  • Your area of interest
  • Any relevant experience or examples (if available)
