Investigative Genetic Genealogy Association

Program Development Lead

The IGG Association is seeking a Program Development Lead to help shape the early direction of a new association for investigative genetic genealogists. This high-impact volunteer role will guide organizational development, coordinate a steering committee, and collaborate closely with the executive committee to establish the association’s mission, branding, and strategic priorities. It’s an exciting opportunity to help build the infrastructure for a growing field from the ground up.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the early development of a professional association for investigative genetic genealogists.
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of a 5–7 person volunteer steering committee.
  • Collaborate with the executive committee and steering committee on branding, mission development, and strategic priorities.
  • Develop documentation and proposals to support long-term organizational planning.
  • Act as a central point of contact for volunteers contributing to content, engagement, and membership recruitment.
Time commitment
  • Approximately 10-15 hours per week.
  • Must be available for weekly virtual meetings and periodic check-ins with executive committee and steering committee members.
  • Initial commitment through September 2026 (may be extended based on organizational progress).
Required skills and experience
  • Experience in nonprofit, membership association, or startup development (paid or volunteer).
  • Strong organizational and facilitation skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse volunteer teams.
  • Strategic planning or community-building experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the field of investigative genetic genealogy is required, but extensive casework experience is not.
Other details
  • This is a short-term, high-impact volunteer role intended to guide the formation of a future independent IGG association.
  • Ideal for someone with a passion for building inclusive professional communities and shaping emerging fields.
  • This role does not carry an executive title or decision-making authority independent of the executive committee oversight structure, but is highly collaborative and influential in setting early direction.
